Many older adults experience concerns about falling and restrict their activities. A MATTER OF BALANCE is an award-winning program designed to manage falls and increase activity levels.
Seniors On Center has on-going classes throughout the year for those of you that think this program may be what you need. We have just finished our third class. If you are interested, please call the Center at 419-496-4191 and we will put you on a list and let you know when our next class will begin. It is a great way to make new friends as you learn to improve your balance.
Beginning March 17, 2010: Our fourth Matter of Balance class.
We are beginning our fourth Matter of Balance Class on March 14. The class starts at 10:00 a.m. and ends at 12:00 Noon each Wednesday for 8 weeks. If you are interested, please call the Center immediately. This is going to be a great class; we have about 10 signed up. Also, if you are in the class and would like to eat lunch with us that day, please call the Center at least the day before to let us know so we will be sure to have food available for you.
WALKING & TREADMILL
Exercise is a great way to start your day, so put on your walking shoes and come on down to the Center. You are welcome to come in and use our tread mill or just join us for a walk around our climate controlled multi-purpose room. Let us know at the front desk what you came for and we will point you in the right direction.
swine flu
Human cases of swine influenza A (H1N1) virus infection have been identified in the United States. An investigation and response effort surrounding the outbreak of swine flu is ongoing.
CDC (Centers for Disease Control and Prevention) activated its Emergency Operations Center to coordinate the agency’s response to this emerging health threat and recently the Secretary of the Department Homeland Security, Janet Napolitano, declared a public health emergency in the United States.
This will allow funds to be released to support the public health response. CDC’s goals during this public health emergency are to reduce transmission and illness severity, and provide information to assist health care providers, public health officials and the public in addressing the challenges posed by this newly identified influenza virus. To this end, CDC has issued a number of interim guidance documents.
WHAT TO DO TO STAY HEALTHY:
There are everyday actions people can take to stay healthy.
- Cover your nose and mouth with a tissue when you cough or sneeze. Throw the tissue in the trash after you use it.
- Wash your hands often with soap and water, especially after you cough or sneeze. Alcohol-based hand cleaners are also effective.
- Avoid touching your eyes, nose, or mouth. Germs spread that way.
- Try to avoid close contact with sick people.
- Influenza is thought to spread mainly person-to-person through coughing or sneezing of infected people.
- If you get sick, CDC recommends that you stay home from work or school and limit contact with others.
