FYI

Is there some outdoor work (clean-up, planting flowers and/or trees, starting a garden) you would like to have done this spring, but just cannot do yourself? Is there something on the inside of your home that you know needs to be done, but you know you should not do it? Connie Miller and her 4H group (the 4 Green Hearts) are offering their services to you. They want to help those who cannot do the things they used to or need to have done. Give Connie a call at 419-946-4119 and let her know how they can be of service to you.

NEWSLETTER ADVERTISING: We will place business card ads in our newsletter for $20.00 per month. If you would like to put a flyer in with our newsletter for one month, the cost would be $40.00. Just give us a call at 419-946-4191.

BENEFITS BANK ELIGIBILITY ASSISTANCE:
Thousands of Ohioans are eligible for assistance that can help them become healthier and more financially secure, but they do not access the benefits available to them.

AARP Ohio, Ohio District 5 Area Agency on Aging, Inc. and the Benefit Bank are working together to help local residents estimate their eligibility and apply for benefits such as food assistance, health care coverage, home energy assistance, and child care subsidies.

Ohio residents of any age are encouraged to contact the Area Agency on Aging to schedule an appointment for a one-on-one consultation to determine eligibility. Each year approximately $1.6 billion in benefits is unclaimed in Ohio, most of which would support the Ohio economy if obtained by eligible beneficiaries. To schedule an appointment, call the Area Agency on Aging at 800-860-5799.

MORE PEOPLE ELIGIBLE FOR MEDICARE PRESCRIPTION DRUG PLAN EXTRA HELP
Medicare Extra Help, also known as Low Income Subsidy Program, assists people with their Medicare Part D premiums and co-pays. Beginning January 1, 2010, changes in the law made it easier for some people to qualify for Extra Help with their Medicare prescription drug plan costs. Under the Medicare improvements for patients and Provides Act:

  • Life insurance policies will no longer be counted as a resource
  • Any help received regularly from someone to help you pay your household expenses—food, mortgage, rent, heating fuel or gas, electricity, water and property taxes will no longer be counted as income.

To qualify for extra help:

Your annual income must be limited to $16,245 for an individual ($21,855 for a married couple living together).

Even if your annual income is higher, you still may be able to get some help with your monthly premiums, annual deductibles and prescription co-payments. Some examples where your income may be higher include if you or your spouse:

  • Support other family members who live with you
  • Have earnings from work; or live in Alaska or Hawaii, and
  • Your resources must be limited to #12,510 for an individual ($25,010 for a married couple living together). Resources include such things as bank accounts, stocks and bonds; your house or car are NOT counted as resources.

For additional information, contact the Area Agency on Aging at 800-860-5799.

DO YOU KNOW ABOUT HEMEN? (Helping Elderly Meet Essential Needs)
Many older adults live on a limited income, so what do they do when their washer breaks down? The Area Agency on Aging regularly receives calls fro this type of assistance. The HEMEN program purchases items for older adults who have no other way of having their need addressed. If you have any questions, contact Seniors on Center or the Area Agency on Aging.

COMMODITIES
Ohio Foodbank.Do you know and you aware of our Commodity Supplemental Food Program that is available to those 60 years of age and older? The last week of every month, a truck from the Mid-Ohio Food Bank comes to Seniors on Center loaded with 175 boxes of food. The box contains 2 lbs. of reduced fat American cheese, dry and evaporated milk, juice, oatmeal, peanut butter, pasta, canned fruit and vegetables and varies monthly.

If you have questions or know of someone who might benefit from this program, please call the Center at 419-946-4191.

CHANGE TO SATURDAY SQUARE DANCE ADMISSION. THIS DOES NOT AFFECT MONDAY MUSIC NIGHTS.

Starting Saturday, April 17, 2010, square dance admission will be $5.00 per person. If you purchased your new membership from January 1 through March 17, 2010, you will still get in free through December 31, 2010. Anyone purchasing a membership after March 17, 2010 and it is not time for your membership to renew will have to pay $5.00 per person.

Again, this does not affect music nights, only Saturday square dance nights. It is hard to find a band to play for square dances without charging an admission price now days. Remember when we first started with the square dances? You could not believe we were not charging since almost everyone else was charging $8.00 per person, but that was two years ago. We really wish that we did not have to do this, but all of you enjoy the BAND and the DANCING, so we had to make some changes to keep this available to you.
